Mark Barmes studied Economics and Law at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. He has been a solicitor in that jurisdiction since 1987, as well as qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1992, and registering as a foreign solicitor with the Geneva Bar Association in 1990. He has been a Partner with Lenz & Staehelin since 1998 in the Private Client group advising primarily in trust related matters. Mark Barmes actively contributes to the field of wealth and estate planning through his lectures on behalf of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and as a member of the Swiss Association of Trust Companies (SATC). He has twice served on the SATC management committee since 2007, supporting the committee in regulatory issues and trustee licencing in Switzerland.
